NVQs for Supervisors & Management
Job-role specific NVQ's are used to demonstrate 'occupational competence' and are needed in order to obtain a CSCS Skilled Worker card.
Build UK Contractors now insist that everyone working on their sites holds or is at least working towards a CSCS card that is specific to his or her job role - whether they're a Groundworker, Tunnelling Operative, Plant or Machinery Maintenance Operative, Steelfixer, Site Foreman or Contracts Manager - everyone needs to hold sufficient evidence that they can safely carry out the role that they are employed to do and that's where NVQ's and the CSCS carding scheme comes into play.
All trade NVQ's are delivered via the OSAT 'On Site Assessment & Training' route, which is typically over 2-4 site visits subject to the candidate's experience, evidence held on record and of course the intensity of the qualification they're undertaking. Over the course of the qualification evidence is gathered by the candidate in order to build a portfolio meeting the necessary criteria outlined by the associated Awarding Body.
Qualifications available for construction workers range from Level 1 to Level 6 and 7 - Level 1 for Labourers and Level 6 & 7 Construction or Senior Construction Managers.
The process:
Induction onto the qualification
Practical observation (plant/occupation specific)
Professional discussion
Evidence must be obtained by using ALL of the following:
1. Observation of performance by the assessor
2. Witness Testimony or Testimonies by an expert witness
3. Professional Discussion
